BIO
A riveting singer/songwriter, HOLLY JEBB was born and raised in Southern California, and heavily influenced by the Los Angeles music scene of the late 60’s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, exploring the emotional details of love and heartbreak, and social problems such as child abuse and drug addiction, through various musical genres.
Holly came to music naturally. Her mother was a Las Vegas lounge singer and taught her to harmonize when Holly was a toddler. Growing up, Holly sang with her local church choirs and was in choir and madrigals throughout her school years. While she played piano from the moment she could reach the keys, inspired by Joni Mitchell, she taught herself how to play guitar and began turning her poetry into songs.
While eventually a solo indie folk artist, she started her career as a singer, co-writer and vocal arranger for the Man Ray Vocal Band, sang in a number of cover bands around LA, and eventually formed her original pop band Holly Jebb and the Red Tide, which showcased her original songs in Hollywood music venues such as Highland Grounds Coffeehouse, The Breakaway, 8121 Club and Genghis Cohen. While forsaking her musical ambitions to raise her daughter, eventually she had to return to her musical roots and briefly formed an LA vocal/guitar trio with two friends - Austin, Jebb & Sheppard - before finding her way to her permanent home in Tucson, Arizona, where she is once again performing her original songs.
(GENE) CALARCO, I'm a native of the Oakland, California Bay area. I learned guitar licks and song structure from some amazing and iconic blues artists and British groups such as John Mayall & the Blues Breakers, The Yardbirds, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, BB King, Howlin Wolf and Albert King. I began playing lead guitar professionally at 18, while touring the east coast with multiple bands. My focus always on composing original songs, in 1982 I moved to NYC, and founded the original pop rock band The Papers with JT Barone. The Papers recorded a single album at Song Shop Studios NYC with Producer Ronny Rogers of (Deputy of Love), fame. Gaining regional notoriety, The Papers opened shows and performed alongside many notable artists, including Humble Pie, Novo Combo, The Blasters, The Shirts, at such iconic clubs as Max’s Kansas City, CBGB and Tramps.
Forward musical motion landed me in Los Angeles, where I continued to perform my original songs with the groups Wall to Wall and 1-Hero at LA's most iconic clubs, including Doug Weston’s Troubadour, The Viper Room, Madam Wong’s, the Whisky A-Go-Go, and the Central.
Holly and Gene met working at MGM Studios in Los Angeles. They formed their lasting songwriting partnership while both were involved with other original music projects. Holly and Gene reunited their song writing partnership - writing and recording music - which resulted in the production of this collection of songs, (available on this website hollyandgene.com) “The Abyss,” a song about finding hope in a dying world… Available on all the music outlets along with "Chemistry" and "Rain Down" our latest release.
